Dermatology

It is not uncommon to see your dog scratch behind their ears with there hind legs, nor is it a rare occurrence to witness your cat rub up against their scratching post. It only becomes a problem when the occasional scratch turns into something rather excessive. This should be a clear warning sign that your pet is suffering from a dermatological issue. Our team at Everhart wants to free your cat or dog from any physical discomfort through our dermatology services.

It is normal for dogs and cats to periodically clean their paws or shake their heads. It only becomes a problem when this behavior turns into something rather excessive. This should be a clear warning sign that your pet is suffering from a dermatological issue. Our team at Everhart wants to free your cat from any physical discomfort through our dermatology services.

Identifying Dermatology Issues

Allergies and other dermatology issues are a very common and potentially frustrating ailment for both our patients and you, the owner. An exam from a veterinarian may be needed if you notice:

Excessive itching/scratching/licking

Hair Loss/Bald Patches

Red itchy, scaly, or scabby spots present on their skin

Presence of fleas or ticks

There are a variety of diagnostics available to test for dermatology issues. This includes in-house testing to evaluate for bacteria, yeast, mites, and other explanations for why your pet could be in discomfort. Our veterinarians will then work with you to determine if additional testing such as ear or skin cultures or allergy testing may be appropriate.

Treatments Available For Dermatology Issues:

Recommendations on diet changes

Flea treatments

Anti-Itch, Antifungal, and Antibiotic Medications

Appropriate options for non-prescription treatments

Be prepared to give your veterinarian a detailed explanation of what you have observed regarding your pet’s behavior. This information, paired with their

findings from the physical examination, will allow them to determine the best course of action to correct your pet’s skin condition.
