5 New Year Resolutions for Cats and Dogs

Consider these New Year Resolutions for your cats and dogs.

New Year resolutions have been a long-standing tradition for decades. You might remember talking with your friends many years ago about what each other’s New Year resolutions were. While many people have shook their heads over how most people don’t keep their resolutions for long, it never hurts to use the New Year as a time to set new goals. Your pets can get in on it, too. These five New Year resolutions for cats and dogs are just a few ideas.

1. Check Off Pet Healthcare Priorities

How is your pet’s health doing? How is it doing in terms of overall physical health, weight, grooming, dental health, and everyday physical and mental exercise? If it is lacking in any part of its health, you can choose today to make that part of your pet’s health a priority. If you need to take your pet to the vet in central Maryland, Everhart Veterinary Medicine has locations in Pasadena, Baltimore, and Cross Keys.

2. Learn a New Trick

Both cats and dogs can learn new tricks. It could be to learn a new, simple command, a dance routine, an obstacle course, a chore to help you around the house, or commands in a different language (if you love languages.) These ideas are just a few examples.

3. Prioritize Bonding Time

Our lives can get very busy from day to day and season to season, but spending time with your pets will make them feel more like a part of the family. If you feel like you barely spend time with your pet, prioritize setting a time at least once a week if not daily to give your pet the attention it deserves.

4. Expand Horizons

Traveling with your pet, even just around the block, requires proper pet identification and control for you to have a safe experience. Your pet should not be in danger of running off and getting lost or in a fight. With that said, you can expand your pet’s horizons by taking it boating, hiking, running, or some other activity that it also enjoys.

5. Treat Your Pet

Your New Year pet resolution could also just be a New Year pet celebration. Treat your pet to a massage, a special meal, extra treats, or its favorite activity. If your dog loves to stop and sniff, you could take it on a walk with unlimited time to stop and sniff as it pleases. If your cat likes watching movies with you, you could have a movie night.
