Love baking? Try out homemade fall treats your dog will love.

We’re officially entering the fall season, and many people are happy to finally get to enjoy cooler weather, warm clothing, and fall drinks and foods again. If you have a pet dog, your pet can enjoy the fall festivities, too. While there are plenty of fall activities you can do with your dog, you can also find many fall-themed treats your dog will love. Instead of sharing specific recipes, we will show you the general guidelines for making fall-themed dog treats and what you and what there is to look forward to.

A Flexible Guide to Fall-Themed Dog Treats

If you look up fall-themed dog treats online, you will find different recipes or commercially sold dog treats. If you want to create homemade ones, then there are quite a few combinations you can make.

Combining Ingredients

Some recipes call for more or fewer ingredients. They will generally call for a varied combination of the following ingredients:

  • Flour: It could be all-purpose, wheat, or rice flour.
  • Pumpkin
  • Butternut Squash
  • Sweet Potato
  • Apple or Applesauce: If the recipe uses applesauce, it should not have added sugar or sweetener.
  • Peanut Butter: It must be free of xylitol, added sugar, added salt, and hydrogenated oil.
  • Egg(s)
  • Turkey: Turkey or any other meat, like chicken, must be cooked.

These dog treats could also include additional ingredients like dried cranberries or chicken stock. All homemade dog treats have some combination of dry and wet ingredients. For example, you could combine shredded apple, sweet potato, and wheat flour with an egg and chicken broth.

Baking the Treats

After combining all ingredients together, you can form the dough into balls, rounds, or shapes like dog bones or fall leaves. You will need to bake the treats for at least 40 minutes on average. Once they cool, you can feed them to your pet!

Benefits of Making Homemade Dog Treats

There are plenty of great reasons to make homemade dog treats during the fall and any other season. Participating in this activity lets you:

  • Get off your phone
  • Work with your hands
  • Bond with your dog
  • Save money on dog treats
  • Feed your pet a healthy diet
